Former president John Dramani Mahama has appealed to the Teacher Unions and Ghanaians at large to be imperturbable to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after they emerged winners of the 7th December, 2024 general elections.

According to him, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has created mess in the economy of the country so they will need some time to fix the mess before the economy will come back on its feet.

He said it is very sad that the economic mismanagement of the NPP administration has rendered the innocent Ghanaians in a severe hardship.

Addressing party members at Hohoe in the Volta Region as part of his “Building the Ghana we want together” tour, Mr. Mahama stated that he understood the Teacher Unions and Ghanaians as a whole have many demands but he begged them to exercise patience when NDC come to power in 2025.

He added that all indicators show that the NDC will win the general elections and come to power in 2025.

“I will plead with the Teachers Union, Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), The Teachers’ and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) and all of them, I know all of them are crumbling for allowances, increasing in allowances and so on and so forth, Lets me caution you that in 2025, Insha Allah after we will take over, we will show you the book and the finances of this country and you will realize the harm that the NPP administration has done to Ghana’s economy.” He said

This country is broke and so we will beg you that when we come to the office, give us a bit of a honey mood, let’s put things in place so that we can bring the economy back on its feet and when we have done that we can see to your demands again.” Mr. Mahama appealed.

According to him, due to the nature of the current economic hardship, he is meaured in his promisesin order to deliver to the expectations of Ghanaians.

“And that is why I am being measured in the promises that I make because we all know the crisis in which this country has been plunged in” Mr. Mahama Assured.

The flagbearer of the largest opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC) has intestified his campaign through the “Building the Ghana we want together” tour.

Mr. Mahama explained that “In Building the Ghana We Want Together, it will take grit. It will take
determination. But we have what we did not have before – the benefit of hindsight and reflection from afar, and the benefit of experience – to improve upon our successes and avoid our mistakes.”

“As I roll out my campaign for the flagbearer slot of the NDC and subsequently during the national elections, I will engage as many of you in the public as possible and interface with various interest groups to tap into your views on how to fashion the Ghana we want.” He noted.

Meanwhile, the President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has said the next president of the Republic of Ghana will not take it easy because he will inherite a mess due to nonesense taxes by the ruling government.

“I think it is important to be very careful how we want to deal with this economy. I pity the next president of this country because what it means is that you are going to deal with this nonsense of taxes and there will be no breathing room at all,” he stated.

Many Ghanaians have called for change in political power in the country.

They said, the hardship incured under this current government is unbearable.

But the government has said things will be better because the country was facing the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war and COVID-19.
