Chris Hughton is reactive rather than proactive – Ghanaians descend on Black Stars coach

Some Ghanaians football fans have expressed their dissatisfaction of the performance of the National Team, Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton.

According to them, there has not been any improvement and inspiration since Chris was appointed as the head coach.

Speaking in an interview monitored by Elvisanokyenews.com after Black Stars defeat to Cape Verde in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), some supporters said the coach is not good and that the support authorities should find a good coach for the team.

An angry Ghanaian described him as a reactive coach rather than proactive coach.

He said, Chris Hughon is an average coach who is not up to standard.

“Unfortunately, our coach is a very average coach, he is not up to standard. He was not coaching any team before for almost a year before coming to take over the Black Stars, Yes he has been in the Black Stars for long but he is not good enough. He is a poor coach and I am glad his contract is coming to and end so we can find a better coach” He said,

Speaking to GHOne TV, the supporter added that the spirits of the players were down due to lack of inspiration by the coach despite the efforts by the supporters to uplift the players.

“For me it is clear, he is a reactive coach rather than proactive coach. I don’t know if he is scared to allow our players to play. In the last five matches, in all the first half games, he left our players sitting behind, he is not a brave coach, he doesn’t inspire in any way, you don’t see any inspiration. From the start of the game, the players came and their spirits were down, you could see from this game the spirits of the players were down even though fans came in their numbers. ” He added.

“You could see the fans were there to uplift the boys but the boys were not even uplifted, so you can tell that it is a coaching issue. The coach is not inspiring the boys, he is not giving them strength to play and he is not encouraging them to play so me the coach is average he is not good enough” He stated.

Another fan with X account Two Terty is unhappy about the style of selections by the coach.

“You take Jordan Ayew out and Bring in Osman Bulari with 5 minutes to end the game. Coach Banza” He wrote.

The Black Stars of Ghana suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde who is currently on top of Group B on Sunday.

Ghana’s next game is against Egypt and Mozambique on Thursday, 18th January, 2024 and Monday, 22 January, 2024 respectively.

Meanwhile, a Ghanaian supporter has been arrested in Abidjan for attacking coach Chris Hughton at the team’s hotel.

Reports say the coach was saved by some Ghanaian diplomats.

Meanwhile, Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president has said selection of players should be based on merits and not names.

“The point I am making is that selection should be based on merit and not names. And if I had my way, those young boys in the team who can run, I will give them the chance” He stated.
