Ghana National Team, Black Stars goalkeeper, Richard Ofori says he is not concerned about criticism from the social media.

According to him, he is only focusing on how the team will win their next game and work hard to the next stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON).

He said he has been at the game for long so his performance in the gave is normal and he is not disappointed.

The Black Stars of Ghana suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde who is currently on top of Group B on Sunday.

The defeat of the Black Stars first game in the 2023 AFCON has generated a lot of criticism on the various social media platforms. Some disappointed Ghanaians are blaming the low performance of the players and the head coach, Chris Hughton.

Speaking to the media after Sunday night’s defeat, the Orlando Pirates of the South African Premier Division goalkeeper, Richard Ofori stated that he doesn’t even go to listen to criticism.

Adding that those comments and criticism on the social media platforms doesn’t affect him.

“…No, no, no, I don’t hear anything because I hardly go to social media and stuff to listen to comments or whatsoever, so I don’t listen. I don’t even know what is going on there. I don’t even know what is going on outside there. I just focus on the game and what I can do to help my country, that is the most important thing, ” Richard Ofori stated.

He added that defeating one game doesn’t mean he has disappointed the team.

“It is normal, this is the highest football and I have been at the game for long so it doesn’t matter if the coach has confidence in you and the team have confidence in you it should show on the pitch and it shows on the pitch that I am capable. We just need to stay focused and we will make sure we will win the next game. That is the most important” He indicated.

For his part,  the Crystal Palace forward , Jordan Ayew has blamed ‘a lack of experience’ in the Ghana team for their defeat to Cape Verde.

“We lack a lot of experience…,At the end of the day, if you look at the squad that we have, more than 10 [players], this is their first AFCON so this type of mistakes will happen and we need to learn and we need to learn quick because the AFCON is not waiting for anyone…we need to stand up and face the reality .”

He added that sometimes they do their best but luck eludes them.

“Obviously we come here we want to win, you do your best but sometimes it doesn’t go well with you, what are you going to do? You need to face reality and the reality is that we have zero points in the group and we have two more games and we have to win” Jordan Ayew said.

Some Black Stars supporters have also blamed the head coach, Chris Hughton for his poor performance.

One Ghanaian said he will rate Chris as an average performing coach who is not up to standard.

“Unfortunately, our coach is a very average coach, he is not up to standard. He was not coaching any team before for almost a year before coming to take over the Black Stars, Yes he has been in the Black Stars for long but he is not good enough. He is a poor coach and I am glad his contract is coming to and end so we can find a better coach” He said,

“For me it is clear, he is a reactive coach rather than proactive coach. I don’t know if he is scared to allow our players to play. In the last five matches, in all the first half games, he left our players sitting behind, he is not a brave coach, he doesn’t inspire in any way, you don’t see any inspiration. From the start of the game, the players came and their spirits were down, you could see from this game the spirit of the players were down even though the supporters came in their numbers. ” He added.
