The National Executive Council (NEC) of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has unanimously approved Minister of Energy and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South Constituency of the Ashanti Region, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate to the flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the 2024 general elections.
The party described Dr Opoku Prempeh, also known as Napo, as a bold, confident, hardworking, grassroot mobilizer, patriotic, and uncorruptable person who shares the same vision of a bold solution for our country with Dr. Bawumia.
“I will say, it brings to us, a bold, confident, hard working, decisive, grassroot mobilizer, charrimatic, patriotic, and incorruptable person, that simplifies who Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is. In fact, he is a leader with a clear track record with achievement and he shares Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s vision of a bold solution for our country which seeks to address the challenges and needs of the 21st Century.” General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said this at the Alisa Hotel on Thursday, July 4 to confirm him as the running mate.
He said they are optimistic that the two leaders will help the NPP to break the 8 come December 7.
“In this respect, we compliment our flagbearer in many significant ways and the two enjoy a warm personal relationship upward in deep mutual respect. More importantly, Ladies and Gentlement, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has a great relationship with our flagbearer, his Excellency, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. These two great people as leaders of the party with their transformational campaign message will help the New Patriotic Party to secure a resounding third consecutive electoral victory on December 7, 2024. ” He said.
The news of Dr. Bawumia’s running mate proposal has met with several criticisms as people accused Napo as arrogant and disrespectful following his comment on power crisis (dumsor).
