Nigerian social media user who goes by name Humble iyke has explained the reason Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu MFR, who is known professionally as Burna Boy owes part of his success in the music industry to Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artist, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr widely known as Shatta Wale.

According to him, though Burna Boy gained fame in South Africa before traveling to Ghana, his encounter with Shatta Wale gave him more audience.

He said Burna Boy worked hard to be recognized in many countries but through Shatta Wale he was able to make his dream come to pass.

“Burna Boy Owes Part of His Success to Shatta wale (shatta movement) , Says @Humble iyke. Burna Boy, now one of Africa’s biggest and most booked musicians, began his career in 2011 but struggled to gain recognition. In 2015/16, while still a struggling artist in Nigeria, he faced challenges in getting his music played by DJs. Seeking opportunities, Burna Boy first gained fame in South Africa before traveling to Ghana in 2016, where Shatta Wale took him under his wing.” He wrote in a post sighted by Elvisanokyenews.com.

He stressed that before Burna Boy met his Ghanaian counterpart, Shatta Wale, the self-acclaimed dancehall king was more famous than him so the collaboration of  “Hosanna” song by Shatta Wale brought Burna Boy back into limelight for him to gain more international recognition.

“At that time, Shatta Wale was significantly more prominent than Burna Boy and helped him in various ways, including collaborating on the hit song “Hosanna.” This song brought Burna Boy back into the limelight and helped him gain recognition both at home and internationally.” He claimed.

Humble Iyke admitted that Burna Boy has been seen as an African Giant in the music industry, however, Shatta Wale remains part of his success.

“By 2018, Burna Boy had broken barriers to become the global artist he always aspired to be, known as the African Giant. However, Shatta Wale remains a crucial part of his success story.” He stated.
