Techiman South: Physical Planning Department to kickstart street naming and housing addressing exercise

The Techiman South Municipal Physical Planning Department, has announced plans to conduct a digital street naming and housing addressing exercise within the Municipality.

The initiative aims to simplify locomotion and enhance navigation within the municipality by assigning unique GPS codes to all streets and houses, improving the accuracy, efficiency, and convenience of locating specific addresses and destinations.

The Techiman South Municipal Physical Planning Department, seeks to streamline the process of identifying and accessing residential and commercial properties, public facilities, and other points of interest within the municipality hence the digital street naming and housing addressing exercise.

“The assignment of GPS codes to streets and houses will enable residents, visitors, emergency services, and delivery providers to easily locate and navigate to their desired destinations, reducing confusion, delays, and errors associated with traditional address systems.”  Mr. Kwame Asante Agyeman, the Techiman South Municipal Physical Planning Director, told our reporter.

Mr. Agyeman further disclosed that the street naming and property addressing project was started in the year 2014 and the current government is advancing the project by digitalizing it. He said with the digitalization, every household will get a unique house number which can be easily traced with a GPS code.

“In the year 2014, the government decided to enroll this street naming and property addressing project, this current government has digitalize the exercise, the government wants to ensure that, every household will get a house number which is unique and can be traced with a GPS code that will be written below the housing plates and that will make movement very easy and simple for us.”

“The people who will be conducting this exercise will be wearing a unique uniform of which Ghana Digital Property Addressing Project at the back of their uniform and they will also be carrying an I.D card which will have Ghana Digital Property Addressing Project on it as well as Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority on it. Please if they come to your houses, welcome them.” He said

Mr. Kwame Asante Agyeman, emphatically stated that, the exercise is being conducted by the government and therefore it comes free of charge.

“We should bear in mind that, we are not paying any money so far as this project is concern, some years back, we had some people charging others for the digital address, we realize that they couldn’t provide the digital address and they didn’t return the money either but this is one absolutely free of charge.” He explained
