The Director of the Office of Grants and Research at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Professor Philip Antwi-Agyei has refuted claims that students of Osei Tutu Senior High School (SHS) are violent.
He entreated the public to disregard false perceptions about the an all-boys senior high school and urged those who want to go there to pursue their academy to do so.
He also urged the students to be disciplined and follow the root of their descent.
“Your parents brought them here to learn. They must take their academics seriously in order to pass their exams to motivate others. The perception about Osei Tutu Senior High School is false.” He said.
According to him, most of the students come from a decent, humble family but peer pressure changes their lifestyles when they go to campus so they should remember who they are and where they are coming from in order to secure a better future.
“Most of our children forgot where they are coming from. Some of them come from very decent, very humble backgrounds but when they come here, they forget their background because of peer pressure. That is why I encouraged them to remember where they are coming from.” He said.
Prof. Philip Antwi-Agyei gave this advice during Osei Tutu Senior High School (SHS) Homecoming celebration at Akropong in the Ashanti region.
The Homecoming under the theme: “The role of Old Students in the 21st Century” was aimed at soliciting funds to support their arma mater both infrastructure support and human capacity building.
Oprembong Antwi-Agyei also urged the students to prioritize their education.
He said learning and education is the most important resource a human being can acquire. Adding that education is the fundamental of every developed country.
For his part, the Headmaster of Osei Tutu SHS, Very Rev Bright Yaw Osei appreciated the effort of the Old Students Association saying the school is almost 85 years in existence and lacks infrastructure and with this engagement would go a long way to enhance efficient and effective teaching learning activities.
The National President of Abrempong, Mr. Joseph Opoku Siaw commended his colleagues for coming and empowered others.
He called on other stakeholders to join hands with the government to support the school.
