Former Deputy Information Minister under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the John Dramani Mahama Administration, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has urged Ghanaians to be patient with the new Black Stars coach, Otto Addo.
According to him, Otto Addo is a good coach and he needs patience and time to build a formidable team.
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has agreed to offer Otto Addo a 34-month contract, with an option to extend for an additional two years.
GFA President Kurt Okraku in a statement stated that: “Otto was perfect in the interview process and was on top of the others according to the search committee that led to this decision”
“There were some brilliant individuals among the coaches who applied for the job, so the committee took the pain to interview a chunk of them to pick their thoughts on their intentions to transform the team within a short period due to our peculiar situation.
“The Committee was overly satisfied with Otto’s performance for which reason he was recommended to the Executive Council for approval.
Many Ghanaians have expressed their dissatisfaction over the appointment of Otto Addo as the Black Stars head coach. They said Addo’s last performance for the Black Stars.
Reacting to this development on his X, Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that it took time, patience and consistency for other countries to reach where they are now.
“Resentment towards the GFA appears to cloud people’s opinion about almost every coach we get.Otto Addo is not a bad coach. He needs patience and time to build a formidable team. It has taken time, patience and consistency for the likes of Senegal to get this far.” He wrote.
Meanwhile, Otto Addo has named Joseph Laumann, John Painstil, and Fatau Dauda as his assistant coaches and has since named a 26-man squad for the upcoming international friendly matches against Nigeria and Uganda in March.
