Ghanaian actress, writer, and producer, Lydia Forson has reacted to Communications Director of the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah’s statement that the healthcare delivery system in Ghana needs to be improved.
The actress said it should not take a near death experience for anyone to see Ghana need a better system.
Richard Ahiagbah posted on social media platform X after he was discharged from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital said he has learned that the country needs to improve the healthcare delivery system. “I owe a debt of support and advocacy to ensure that KATH continues to improve healthcare outcomes for Ghanaians.”
Adding that “Fighting to hold on to dear life at KATH has been very frightening and painful. But through it all, I have learned firsthand the extreme deficiencies and prospects of Ghana’s healthcare delivery system. From this experience will arise a Turning Point Foundation to promote a people-centered, outcome-driven health policy regime in Ghana.”
Reacting to this, Lydia Forson said the statement by the NPP Communication Director is not new.
According to her, one Ghanaian Minister made the same promise when he was flown to the US for a health emergency due to COVID -19 in 2021 but the country’s healthcare delivery system remains the same after three years.
“During COVID one minister was flown to the US ( allegedly in a private jet) for a health emergency due to COVID -19. He came back and sang the same tune. This was 2021 we’re in 2024.” Lydia Forson wrote on his X.
“It shouldn’t take a near death experience for ANYONE to see we need a better system.” She added.
Healthcare delivery system in Ghana is one of the challenges the country is currently facing.
All the past and present governments have promised to improve the healthcare delivery system but the situation remains the same.
According to a report, Many Ghanaian diaspora have vowed not to return home due to the poor healthcare delivery system.
