The President of the Islamic Mission Secretariat, Sheikh Harun Appau, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stop pressuring Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s presidential candidate and Ghana’s Vice President , to select a running mate.
Sheikh Appau, said Dr. Bawumia needs a clear mind to make a wise decision in choosing a suitable running mate in order to propel the NPP to break the 8 come December 7th.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the media in Techiman, Sheikh Harun Appau said the pressure from the party and other quarters on Dr. Bawumiah to choose his running mate from a particular region or select a female are all needless hence the need for the suggestions to cease.
“We should allow him to make that decision himself, if not anything, he has elders in the party he will consult with concerning his running mate so the kind of pressure they are putting on him is not necessary
“Some are suggesting his running mate should come from the Ashanti Region because that is where they get majority of their vote, Nana Osagyefo Agyeman Badu, has also suggested that he chose someone from the erstwhile Brong Ahafo Region, all these suggestions will only mount pressure on him, so what happens if he selects someone who is not from your region.
“Why don’t you give him time to select someone he thinks can help his administration and you give him the needed support, that is far more better than what they are doing.” He said
He believes that the pressure from party members could hinder Dr. Bawumia’s ability to make a well-informed choice, which is crucial for the party’s success in the upcoming elections.
The Islamic Mission leader urged party members to have patience and understanding, stating that Dr. Bawumia has the knowledge and experience to make the right decision. He encouraged the party to focus on its campaign and messaging, rather than putting undue pressure on Dr. Bawumia.
