Government to reintroduce PTAs in the management of education – Minister

Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu has announced that the government will re-introduce the Parent -Teacher Association (PTA) in the management of education in the country.

The move, according to the Minister, will help improve teaching and learning outcomes in the Educational Institutions.

“I am particularly happy to announce that PTAs will be introduced back to the management of Education in Ghana under the Presidency of His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama. This will help the parents and teachers to work together to improve learning outcomes in our Educational Institutions.” He said.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) banned PTA activities making them inactive in second-cycle institutions.

But Haruna Iddrisu indicated that the PTAs can summon the educational institutions to produce quality human capital for our country.

“And for PTAs to summon our educational institutions to produce quality human capital for our country.” The Minister added.

He also announced that a National Standardized Test (NST) will be introduced in Ghana to prepare the children for their examinations.

I am also happy to announce that a National Standardized Test (NST) will be introduced in Ghana to P2, P4, P6 and JHS 2. And the intention is simple, we don’t want to train a child that the only time he prepares to write an exam is to prepare for BECE and get ready for BECE when the child has never even gone to the psychological environment of an examination rule.” He said.

“Therefore, we intend to introduce the NST, the National Standardized Test, which will introduce children to prepare for the world and examination tomorrow as part of our improvement of quality assessment in Ghana.”
