Senior Vice President of IMANI-Africa, Kofi Bentil has defended Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh running mate to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia amid arrogance criticism.
According to the lawyer, NAPO as widely called should not be offended and lose focus on his political career since arrogance has a lot of meanings in Ghana.
Speaking on Joy FM monitored by Elvisanokyenews.com, Bentil stated that in Ghana, arrogance means you are well organized, articulate, too known and it also means you know what you want and push for it.
“Maybe you will see the positive I am talking about, in Ghana arrogant is a term of act, it does not mean what is meant in the dictionary. In Ghana, arrogance also means too known, in Ghana, arrogance means you are articulate, you know how to strengthen your thoughts, you know how to make your argument, that is what arrogance means. In Ghana, arrogance means you know what you want and push for it, in Ghana, arrogance means you are analytical. In Ghana, arrogance means you are well organized. In Ghana arrogance means so many things.” He stated.
His comment follows widespread criticism against the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and Energy Minister.
A lot of people especially the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have tagged NAPO with arrogance due to his utterances.
But Kofi Bentil believes if somebody calls you too arrogant in Ghana, you should not be offended, just check yourself in which categories he just mentioned do you fall under.
“If somebody calls you too arrogant in Ghana don’t be offended just check yourself. What we need to appreciate is that for a man like NAPO, the question should be not what you have against him but who is your alternative.” He said.
He indicated that NAPO is an experienced politician who has worked hard to occupy the position he is currently in.
“You have what has been said everywhere, NAPO is arrogant. If you have a person like NAPO who has been in the limelight in the politics of Bantama and NPP has been at the forefront for decades. Been in some of the most controversial Ministries, Education and recently Energy. And when he is alleviated to the highest political position he is currently occupied, all people have to say about him is that he is arrogant.” He added.
