Bonofie, a leading non-governmental organization, has officially launched  the 2024 Meko Bono Home Coming and Festivals.

The Meko Bono Home Coming and Festivals, is a highly anticipated celebration that brings together people from all walks of life within the erstwhile Brong Ahafo region . The event aims to promote teh rich culture and tradition of the Bono people and foster a sense of community, promote cultural heritage, and provide a platform for artistic expression and entertainment.

The Paramount Chiefs of Yeji Traditional Area and President of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs, Pimapim Yaw Kagbrese V  chaired the launching ceremony which took place at the Bonokyempem Hall in the Techiman South Municipality of the Bono East Region.

The theme for 2024 Meko Bono festival “Promoting tourism and culture in the Bono Regions to ensure development”

The 2024 edition of the festival promises to be bigger and better than ever before. Organizers have lined up a diverse array of activities, including traditional music and dance performances, art exhibitions, street carnival, market day, traditional rites and history day, health screening, soccer tournament, artiste night, culinary demonstrations, including many other exciting activities. The event will also feature various educational and informative sessions, catering to the interests of attendees of all ages.

Speaking to the media, Nana Asante Krobea Kaakyire, the Public Relations Officer of ‘Bonofie’  said the event would be the first of its kind in Techiman since the first two editions of the program took place in Sunyani.

He further revealed that, the “Meko Bono Home Coming and Festivals” has come to stay and will be celebrated annually to identify and mobilize human and financial resources to contribute towards the rounded development of the Bono regions.

“We started this program in 2022, and the program has been successful for the past three years thanks to your continuous support, the first two editions were organized in Sunyani but we all know that Techiman is the home of Bonokyempem, so the organizers thought it wise to bring the program to Techiman.

“We are here to officially inform you that, from August 24, 2024 to September 1, 2024, the program will take place in Techiman.

“The purpose of this program is to propagate the beauty and culture of the Bono people, I’m not talking about Bono as a region but Bono as a family which comprises of Bono, Bono East and the Ahafo regions, there are a lot of tourist sites in the erstwhile Brong Ahafo region which we intend to propagate alongside our beautiful culture.” He said.

Pimapim Yaw Kagbrese V who chaired the event, lauded “Bonofie” for such initiative, he said “I commend the Bonofie team, for this excellent initiative, and look forward to continue the efforts to promote cultural and tourism in the Bono regions.

“We discussing tourism, it is important to broaden our focus beyond natural attractions such as mountains, caves, and water bodies, our custom, cultural and traditions including attire, languages and relationship with nature, are equally vital aspect of tourism.

“Our language which is an integral part of our culture, play a crucial role in tourism as it enables to express our oral traditions. I strongly advocate for the use of indigenous languages as they are our first root of from nature, and it is our responsibility to master them and encourage future generations to do same.
