The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said the BizBox project by the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) and Mastercard Foundation symbolizes hope and opportunity.

According to him, the project will create and sustain decent jobs for Ghanaian youth to reduce the high rate of unemployment in the country.

“The project has an ambitious goal to empower 250,000 individuals and support 125,000 with start-up kits as well as provide market access support to 50,000 businesses, and regulatory support to 40,000 businesses. This really is an unprecedented initiative that we believe will create and sustain decent jobs for the Ghanaian youth leaving one behind. The BizBox is more than just a project, it symbolizes hope and opportunity, it encompasses the tools, knowledge and support necessary to initiate, develop, own and grow successful businesses.” The flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Alhaji Bawumia stated.

He said this on Monday, 22 January 2024, when he announced the national kickoff of the BizBox project by the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) and Mastercard Foundation at the Kofi Ohene Konadu Auditorium, University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA), Legon, Accra.

The US$55 million initiative aims to foster entrepreneurship, empower youth, and create a substantial number of jobs across the nation.

The vice president expressed optimism that the BizBox project will help the government to achieve its aim of creating more jobs in the country.

“Together with other projects holding similar objectives, a total of GHC100 million was disbursed to start-up kits and here we have another US$55 million to be disbursed. The work of the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) gives me the assurance that the government will achieve its target of creating an additional 1 million jobs.” He indicated.

Dr. Bawumia revealed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has created 2.1 million jobs in the past seven years they came into power.

“So far, in the last seven years, government has created 2.1 million jobs, 1.2 million in the public sector and 975,000 in the private sector and we want to create an additional 1 million jobs, I have the full confidence in the success of this project which will be iplemented by the GEA led by their dynamic leader Mrs. Kosi Yankey-Ayeh, I have immerse confidence in her ability” He revealed.

For her part, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), Mrs Kosi Yankey-Ayeh explained that the BizBox is aimed to empower youth, entrepreneurs and create a substantial number of jobs across the nation.

“The president charged us to bring out more initiatives to change the lives and destiny of the Ghanaian youth that is why we discussed with our partners to bring forth this project. So this BizBoss which stands for Business Box  is a tool to empower the youth through education, equipment, support” She said.
