The Embassy of Ghana in the United States has officially confirmed the arrest and detention of former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, by U.S. authorities.
In a formal statement dated January 15, 2026, the embassy disclosed that Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu is currently being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Center, located at 2190 East Mesquite Avenue in Pahrump, Nevada.
According to the embassy, Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu was arrested by the United States Marshals on January 6, 2026, and has since remained in custody at the facility.
The statement explained that the arrest was carried out pursuant to an extradition request submitted to U.S. authorities by Ghana sometime in July 2024. Acting on that request, U.S. Marshals apprehended the former MASLOC boss and placed her in detention pending court proceedings.
“I can today confirm that Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu is being detained at the Nevada Southern Detention Center,” the statement noted, adding that she is currently awaiting her day in court.

The confirmation was signed by Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, and addressed to all media houses.
Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu, who served as MASLOC CEO under the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, has been a subject of legal proceedings in Ghana over alleged financial misconduct during her tenure.
Her arrest marks a significant development in Ghana’s efforts to pursue accountability beyond its borders and signals renewed cooperation between Ghanaian and U.S. authorities on extradition-related matters.
The embassy did not provide further details on the timeline of the court process or possible extradition to Ghana, indicating that the matter is now before the appropriate judicial authorities in the United States.
