Former National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Azu Crabbe, has criticised the General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Kodua, over his handling of comments made by Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, describing the approach as procedurally flawed and contradictory.

According to Mr. Crabbe, the General Secretary overstepped his constitutional role by appearing to predetermine the outcome of an internal disciplinary process following Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s remarks describing the NPP as a “fake party.”

He explained that if a party member is alleged to have acted contrary to party rules, the General Secretary’s role is limited to triggering the appropriate internal processes, not directing their conclusion.

“First of all, if he has done anything that is contrary to our laws, as a General Secretary, you are a man of authority and you stand as the party. You do not pronounce, you do not pronounce the end, the outcome, you don’t say that you’re sending the guy to the National Disciplinary Committee or NEC for the man to be expelled. I think that is what is in the letter. This letter I have here is actually coming from him because this is cause of social media. have all kinds of versions.”

He questioned the wording of a letter attributed to the General Secretary, which he said had circulated widely on social media in various versions, creating confusion among party members and the public.

He noted that the letter concludes by stating that the party has invoked relevant provisions of its constitution to commence processes to expel Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, a position he described as contradictory.

He stated that the wording effectively amounts to an instruction to the party’s disciplinary bodies to expel the former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.

“But this letter states at the end that consequently the party has invoked relevant provisions of its constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the party strictly in accordance with due process. Now it’s really very funny that at the end of it, I mean it’s contradictory, go and expel him. So he’s kind of instructing the disciplinary committee to expel the gentleman.”

He further cited the functions of the NPP’s Disciplinary Committee, which he said include investigating complaints of misconduct, conducting a full, faithful and impartial inquiry, and submitting a written report with reasons supporting its conclusions.

He contended that such an approach undermines internal party justice and lends credibility to Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s claims about the state of the party.

“When you read the functions of a disciplinary committee, it talks about the fact that they shall one, investigate complaints concerning the misconduct of a member. Two, make a full, faithful, and impartial inquiry into any complaint referred to it. Three, report in writing the results of the inquiry and the reasons leading to the conclusions reached.

“Meanwhile, the General Secretary has already reached the conclusion. The man must be expelled. He’s found him guilty before he even has a chance to be processed through the internal justice who’s in their system. This validates. It validates what the man was talking about.
