Former President of Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi has said he is totally regretful for discussing monetary issues with the supposed Arabian Sheik who claimed he wanted to invest in Ghana.
He said though the discussions were in good faith but the outcome has created the impression of being corrupt which eventually tarnished his image.
The former football administrator added that he regretted mentioning the name of the president of the Republic of Ghana and the Vice President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia respectfully, during the discussion with the supposed investors.
Kwesi Nyantakyi stated this when an interview on Starr Chat with Bola Ray admitted that he told the supposed investors that he knew politicians and he could lead them to meet those politicians.
“I said that I am Ghanaian, I know politicians once they want to invest in Ghana, I can lead them to these politicians and I don’t think there is anything bad with that. These were people who they forcely represent themselves as large business conglomerates that they could even build refineries……..They said they were going to build refineries in Ghana which cost over two (2) billion US dollars and I said the president would be happy to see somebody like you, the vice president would be happy to see somebody like you, that is how it came about.” He stated.
When Bola Ray asked him if he didn’t tell them to pay money before he could lead them to the President and the Vice president, Kwesi Nyantakyi said. ” Okay, this is what happened. In the course of the discussion monetary issues came up, I can’t run away from that. Yes..It is regrettable that all those things came up. All those things were discussed in good faith. That you are going to help me and I’m also going to help you. At one time, I even said that I would need about one million dollars if I were to contest for a political office in Ghana.”
“All these things were regrettable discussions. I don’t even think about these things but it happened. And to even mention the president’s name, the vice president is all regrettable. It was reported that I was charged with defrauding with false pretends and all kind charges but nothing like that happened at the court”
He also denied that he said Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo was in his pocket and that if he was given an amount of money, the investors will have their way doing business in Ghana.
He described as disrespectful for people to do cartoons protruding Nana Akufo-Addo’s head in his pocket
”I never said that. You see the propaganda? propaganda and who am I to defend myself. Ask Anas to produce a tape in which I said that. How could I even have said that, I never ever said that. But I saw cartoons of Kwasi Nyantakyi reduced into a spider with Nana Akufo-Addo’s head protruding out of my pocket. It was very disrespectful for people to do that.”
In May 2018, the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ordered the arrest of Kwesi Nyantakyi following an exposé by Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in which Nyantakyi was apparently engaged in some fraudulent activity using the name of the President.
According to Kwesi Nyantakyi, he can’t watch the video of Anas a
“I didn’t watch ooo, I didn’t …… No, no, no I can’t watch it, I have not seen the video” Kwesi Nyantakyi stated.
Ghanaians were shocked after the exposee of the former Ghana Football Association president by Anas Aremeyaw Anas was released.
While people criticising the former GFA president, others were also defending him and questioning the style of Anas to tempt people with money.
