Award-winning highlife artist Martin King Arthur, popularly known as Kofi Kinaata, has expressed his opinion on the belief that reggae songs are exclusively for weed smokers.
Kofi Kinaata has consistently received praise for his songwriting abilities and has been honored with the Songwriter of the Year award four times in a row. Recently, he was also crowned the Highlife Artiste of the Year at the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
During an interview with Amanda’s Krakye on Property FM in Cape Coast, the singer of the hit song ‘Effiakuma Love’ revealed that many gospel tunes are composed with reggae beats, essentially making them reggae songs.
He further explained that his own song ‘Effiakuma Love’ was crafted on a reggae beat, giving it the perfect vibes.
Kofi Kinaata questioned the perception that reggae songs are solely associated with weed smokers, stating that reggae is a music genre, not a behavior therefore, even if his new song was intentionally created for weed smokers, he sees no issue with it since it is currently popular.
Kofi Kinaata emphasized that the herb known as “wee,” which is transformed into a drug, was created by God, and thus he doesn’t perceive it as inherently wrong.
