About 19, 017 candidates will sit for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Bono East region which starts on Monday 8 July 2024.
The examinations are expected to take place at about 2,123 centers across the country with 569,095 candidates expected to sit for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination nationwide.
The candidates are expected to kickstart the examination with English Language on 8 July and finish the with Arabic by Monday 15 July 2024.
According the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), about 2,123 supervisors 1,889 assistant supervisors, and 19,973 invigilators will be on duty to ensure the test ran smoothly.
Speaking to Bono East regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Mr. Anthony Kobla Abochi, who doubles as the Drive Time Host on Classic FM, he stated that out of 19,017 candidates that will be sitting for the exams in the region, 9,808 are male while the remaining 9,081 females.
Mr. Abochi, advised the learners to manage their time efficiently during the examination and also double check their answers before submitting the answer booklets to the invigilators.
“We will urge all and sundry to support the candidates with prayers as they begin the BECE today, in the Bono East Region, we have 19, 017 candidates that will sit for this year’s BECE, out of that number, 9,808 are males and the remaining 9,081 are females.
“I will advice our candidates to choose their questions very wisely , if you attempt a question and it is proven to be difficult, kindly leave it and select another question because you do not have to waste a lot of time on a question that you know you can’t answer and by so doing, you will be able to manage your time wisely. When you are done answering the question, double check your work before you submit it. He said.
The Boss Player, as he is affectionately called in the media space, on behalf of the Bono East Regional Education Director, Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II, expressed his profound to all facilitators in the Basic Education Level for their dedication towards the preparation of the learners for the examination. He however, admonished them against any examination malpractices.
“We know how dedicated our teachers, invigilators and supervisors are in terms of preparing the learners towards this particular examination and on behalf of our regional Education Director who doubles as the Queen of the Likpe-Gudeve in the Oti Region, Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II, we will like to express our sincere gratitude to them but please, Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II and the entire Bono East Education Directorate wants you to refrain from any action that could compromise the integrity of the examination.
“Some teachers during examination of this nature attempts to help their learners by supplying them with mobile phones or solve answers for the learners, that is a very bad practice and we are pleading with teachers who are usually engage in such activities to stop.
“We have heard reports that some teachers and invigilators have taken money from the learners to help them write the examination, we are entreating such teacher and invigilators to return the money and desist from anything that will compromise the credibility of the examination.” He said.
