FAGE Launches 2024 Ghana Horticulture Expo

The Federation of Associations of Ghana Exporters (FAGE) has launched the 2024 Ghana Horticulture Expo.

The event, which is set to take place from the 9th to the 11th of July 2024 aims to serve as a pathfinder for the three-day expo, showcasing the country’s vibrant horticulture industry to both local and international audiences.

The 2024 Ghana Horticulture Expo will provide a platform for local farmers, producers, and exporters to showcase their products and connect with potential buyers, investors, and partners.

The event will also feature workshops, seminars, and panel discussions on various topics related to the horticulture industry, including sustainable farming practices, market trends, and export regulations.

This year’s Ghana Horticulture EXPO is on the theme, “Ghana Horticulture EXPO 2024, Celebrating Ghana’s Horticulture Diversity, Produce Quality, Export more, also unveiled Ghana’s Horticulture trade opportunities and Economic Benefits to Farmer And Beyond.

President of FAGE, Mr. Davies Narh Korboe, Ghana needs to adopt a deliberate approach towards agriculture in order to harness its full benefits.

“According to data from GThe 2024 Ghana Horticulture Expo will provide a platform for local farmers, producers, and exporters to showcase their products and connect with potential buyers, investors, and partners.

“The contribution from agriculture could have been significantly higher if the requisite enabling conditions were in place.

“The six tree crops under TCDA are projected to generate $2 billion each by 2029. However, at FAGE, we contend that this projection falls short of the sector’s actual potential, which we estimate to exceed $5 billion annually by 2029.

“Consequently, FAGE assesses the broader horticulture sector to harbor the capability of generating over $10 billion annually, provided the necessary enabling conditions are established. This underscores the imperative for our country to adopt a deliberate approach towards agriculture.” He said

Mr. Davies Narh Korboe, highlighted some of the benefits participants of the 2024 Ghana Horticulture Expo will benefit during the three-day program.

“Throughout the three-day event, attendees can anticipate a dynamic program featuring the following highlights’ exhibitions showcasing various horticultural products, networking and B2B sessions, engaging tasting sessions of Ghanaian rice, promoting locally produced rice by inviting corporate Ghana to enjoy lunch during the expo, demonstrations on preparing authentic Ghanaian rice dishes, interactions with agriculture students, seminars and workshops covering a range of topical subjects, includinga, latest trends and opportunities in horticulture as a business, creating a regulatory environment conducive to exports, sustainability initiatives, technological innovations, quality standards and certification processes, accessing new markets, Securing appropriate financing, addressing Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues and raising awareness about them.” He said

He continued,” based on the aforementioned points, the Expo  provides everyone with an opportunity to delve into the prospects within Ghana’s horticulture sector.

“Following the conclusion of the Expo, FAGE will establish short, medium, and long-term targets with tangible deliverables, prioritizing outcomes over procedural activities.” He explained.

The 2024 Ghana Horticulture Expo is expected to attract a diverse range of attendees, including farmers, producers, exporters, retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and industry experts. The event will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre and will offer a range of networking opportunities, including a dedicated exhibition hall, business-to-business matchmaking sessions, and a networking reception.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Osafohene Asabea Asare I, revealed that her outfit is committed to promoting the country’s Non-traditional exports and sees the horticulture sector as one of the many institutions that can help her outfit to achieve their mission.

“I am deeply committed to our mission of promoting and enhancing Ghana’s Non-traditional exports. The horticultural sector, with its rich variety of high-quality produce, is one of the pillars of this mission.

” Our favorable climate, fertile soils, and the dedication of our farmers and exporters provide us with a unique competitive advantage as far as our major horticultural export markets are concerned.” She explained.

According to her, “in 2023, Ghana recorded Non-Traditional Export revenues of USD 3.9 billion representing an impressive growth of 11.75% and contributing 24% to total merchandise exports…

” The horticultural sub-sector in 2023 recorded USD$495.8 million of total NTEs earnings compared to USD509.9 million earned in 2022 indicating a drop in export revenue.”
