In the lead-up to Ghana’s upcoming general elections, the Member of Parliament for Techiman North, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has called for peaceful electoral process.
Speaking at the just ended conference of the Christian Mothers Association at Akrofrom in the Techiman North District of the Bono East region, the legislature explained that violence and unrest have no place in a healthy democracy.
“As leaders, we have a responsibility to set the right example and ensure our constituents understand that elections are not won through force or intimidation history has shown time and again that violence only breeds more violence, and it is the people who suffer in the end.” She said
The MP urged all political parties and their supporters to refrain from any actions that could incite chaos or undermine the integrity of the electoral system. She called on citizens to be vigilant, but to resolve any disputes through lawful and non-violent means.
“The entire electoral process must be peaceful, we should decide the outcome of the elections with our thumb (vote) and not through violence because no matter how violent one becomes, the outcome of the elections will not change.
“For instance, I Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, know for sure that I will retain my seat because the people bear witness to my good works so no amount of violence can change the results of the election because the electorates will retain me as their Member of Parliamet.” The Legislature told our reporter.
During the climax of the Christian Mothers Association conference, the former Member of Parliament for Techiman North and NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Techiman North constituency, Hon. Martin Oti Gyarko, donated an amount of GHc2,000.oo and said since Hon. Elizabeth is the sitting MP, she will multiplied that amount by fivefold.
However, Hon. Elizabeth interpreted what Hon. Martin Oti Gyarko is a declaration of her victory come December 7th 2024.
“My brother that I will be contesting with in the name of NPP has even said development in Techiman is not going on as plan and that is because I’m the only one working, the NPP government is not living up to expectation, he also said I will multiply whatever he will do by fivefold, so you can see that he has even seen that I’m doing a good work, in the last elections, I won by two thousand votes but after today’s program we have all agreed that I will win this year’s election by 10,000 votes.” She said
The MP’s call for peace and unity resonated with the audience, who responded with enthusiastic applause and pledges to heed her message.
