Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has said the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa can not be removed on the basis that the NDC heavily criticised her performance.
He said there should be a proper grievance based on the law then it passes through certain processes.
Speaking to TV3 monitored by Elvisanokyenews.com, Kwakye Ofosu stated that Jean Mensa will not be removed because people don’t like her as the NPP did to the former EC Boss, Charlotte Osei.
“These things are dictated by law, you can not say you don’t like Jean Mensah so she should be removed. I will not endorse that, that is the point I am making. If we have grievances about her performance, we will say so. To remove the EC Chairperson, you have to go through certain processes.” He said.
Adding that “You have to do something that merits removal and must be proven through a fair and transparent process. So if that criteria has been met, why not? But I am not going to say that because Jean Mensah has been criticized by the NDC for her incompetence she should be removed.”
He explained that President John Dramani Mahama will not contradict the law and take any decision against Jean Mensa because there was some misunderstanding between the EC and the NDC in the past.
“We can not run a country like that. Of course I know the NPP can do that as they did to Charlotte Osei but President Mahama is more measured. He goes strictly by the book, and he is not going to say because in the past we had a disagreement with Jean Mensa so she should be removed.” He said.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has been petitioned to remove Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Jean Mensa.
The petitioner, Ofosu-Appiah Daniel, accused the EC Boss of constitutional violations, incompetence, bias, and lack of public confidence in the Electoral Commission.
