The Manhyia Palace has denied media reports that the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s convoy was attacked by some youth in Techiman in the Bono East Region.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the alleged youth in Techiman attacked buses that were escorting the Asantehene to a funeral at Nkoranza.
But the Palace in an information shared by “The Asante Nation” on X (Formerly, Twitter) said Otumfuo’s convoy has not been attacked.
The Palace urged the public to disregard the false information.
“Otumfuo’s convoy has not been attacked as speculated, so kindly disregard the false information circulating on some media platforms.” The information read.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into an alleged attack on the convoy of the Asantehene.
According to the Police, preliminary police investigation revealed that the incident occurred as the Asantehene was returning from a funeral at Nkoranza in the Bono East Region.
“The Ghana Police Service is investigating an alleged attack on the convoy of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, which occurred at Techiman in the Bono East Region, yesterday, Monday, December 2, 2024.” The Police statement said.
“Preliminary police investigation revealed that the incident occurred as the Asantehene was returning from a funeral at Nkoranza in the Bono East Region when some youth believed to be from Techiman threw stones at some buses in the convoy.”
The Police said they are in touch with Manhyia Palace in Kumasi and other stakeholders at Techiman as part of the investigation.
