Ghanaian actor and politician, John Dumelo has revealed the cause of his defeat in the 2020 Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary election.

Lydia Alhassan who replaced her late husband Emmanuel Boakye Agyarko on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) defeated John Dumelo who represented National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2020 parliamentary election.

Lydia Alhassan secured 39,851 votes while John Dumelo also got 37,778.

Prior to the Electoral Commission;s declaration, the actor wrote on his X that he was in pole position to win when all the results were verified by the EC.

“We are still waiting for the Electoral commission to declare the final results. By the projection, I am in pole position to win when all the results are verified by the EC” He wrote.

Speaking to Bolo Ray on star chat, Dumelo revealed that he lost the election because of three reasons.

According to him, he lost because they didn’t intensify their door to door campaign, students were not on campus and the third one was they had a few mishaps during the election time.

“I think the first reason why I lost the 2020 election was that we did door to door campaigns but we didn’t go everywhere. The second one was that the students were not on campus and the third one was we had a few mishaps during the election time which I can not say now but these are the three reasons why we lost.” He said.

John Dumelo added that they have learnt lessons from their past mistakes which will guide them to win the 2024 elections.

He said they are not working hard but they will work smart to be able to look at the strength and weaknesses of our opponents to win the election.

“The last time I was telling somebody this time around we are not working hard but we are working smart. We need to work smart and we need to be able to look at the strengths and weaknesses of our opponents and use that for ourselves. So I think we have learnt so many lessons, we have dotted our i’s and crossed our t’s and we know why we lost and we know how we can win in 2024” He added.
