The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has responded to former president and the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama claims that the 1 Student 1 Tablet initiative by the NPP government is a gift to entice the students to vote for the current government.

Addressing a student forum at the Wisconsin University in Accra, Mr. Mahama alleged that the government initiated 1 Student 1 Tablet policy to bribe the students because some of the pre-tertiary students are 18 years and above and some will turn 18 years and they are the people who are going to vote.

“Even pre-tertiary student tablets is more important, of course everybody knows the political expediency, the pre-tertiary students are going to register in May because some of them will be coming 18years and above, some are 18 years already and they are going to be the one voting so this is a gift to entice them to vote for the current government” Mahama stated.

Responding to this comment on X, the Communications Director of the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah said the initiative has nothing to do with votes.

According to him, the move is to prepare the students to compete with others in this technology world.

Adding that the 1 Student 1 Tablet initiative is part of policies such as 1 teacher, 1 laptop, smart basic school classrooms, of which 663 have been completed, free campus internet access to make learning easier for the students.

“The 1 Student 1 Tablet initiative is part of a policy to make our classrooms smarter. Related policies include 1 teacher, 1 laptop, smart basic school classrooms, of which 663 have been completed, free campus internet access, and such. @JDMahama .Sir, this has nothing to do with votes; it is about the future competitiveness of Ghana. Ghanaians will vote for the Bawumia & NPP on December 7th to show appreciation.” He wrote.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has revealed that the students will receive the first batch of 450,000 free student tablets fully funded through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND).

The NPP government is determined to make education more attractive and easy.
