The Member of Parliament for Bole Bamboi, Yusif Sulemana, has expressed disappointment with President H.E Nana Addo’s last State of the Nation Address (SONA).
The outgoing President H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo today at the floor of parliament presented what will be his last State of the Nation Address (SONA) where he highlighted some of the achievement of his government since assuming office in 7th January, 2017.
H.E Nana Addo in his address revealed that, he and the NPP government among other achievements has revamp the country’s economy as his government is “handing over the country with Gross International Reserves of almost US$8 billion.” which he said “is more than the US$6.2 billion” his administration inherited in 2017.
However, the Member of Parliament for Bole Bamboi, Yusif Sulemana, said he is highly disappointment in H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuf0-Addo as he was expecting an unqualified apology for mismanaging the country.
Yusif Sulemana said the President should have use the opportunity to throw more light on the mismanagement of state funds in building the National Cathedral and proposed a roadmap for continuing the project and not to blow his own trumpet about the state of the country’s economy.
“This would have been the platform for him to say that, yes, we have started building this cathedral, yes, we have not been able to do it, but I propose that going forward, this is how we should go about it. Now that he is leaving office, what is he asking us to do about the cathedral?
“I mean, these are some of the things that I thought the president would have said but not talking about the economy being revamped and all of that, we leave that to Ghanaians to judge.” He said.
Hon. Sulemana stated that the President should have apologized to Ghanaians for wasting taxpayers’ money on the National Cathedral project. While acknowledging that the Nana Addo administration undertook certain commendable initiatives, he maintained that, overall, the government led by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been nothing short of abysmal.
“He should be telling Ghanaians how they fail and If it means apologizing to them, we apologize to them as a people and then we move on, so for me, he lost it. He got it wrong.
”He should have apologized to Ghanaians If not for anything the cathedral he promised Ghanaians, the cathedral he promised God, if he can deceive God my brother Who else can he not deceive.
”If you want me to assess his 8 years of administration, I will say he has done certain things that we need to appreciate, but if you want to grade him, if he want to weigh his good things against his bad things, I can tell you that this is the president that is going to go on record as being the president that has performed abysmally.” He said.
