American former professional boxer, Michael Gerard Tyson popularly known as Mike Tyson has shot down his 16 year old son’s ambition to become a boxer in the future.
He said his son went to a private school, he has taken trips to Europe, he has been around the world and that he (Mike Tyson) sees his son as a middle-class child and for that matter he can not be a fighter.
According to him, boxing is a lot of sacrifices, pain, suffering so you do it when you have nothing.
He explained that someone who is into boxing always wants to be the best and dominate everyone and that someone who has dedicated his time in school can not achieve that goal.
“Mike Tyson:”I had my oldest son who was 16 telling me he wanted to become a professional boxer. But stop there, you’re stup!d, you went to a private school!You can’t be a boxer, you’ve taken trips to Europe, you’ve been around the world. You can’t be a fighter with that. You want to fight guys like me? Animals? I don’t want my kids to go through that, it’s degrading. Boxing, you do it when you have nothing. It’s a lot of sacrifices, pain, suffering. I took the blows so that my children wouldn’t have to do it. When I look at them, I see middle-class children, who went to school, who do what they want. Boxing means wanting to be the best, to dominate everyone.” He said.
Adding that considering the stress and pain he went through during his boxing career, he doesn’t want to put the same pressure on his children.
“I don’t want to put that kind of pressure on them.” He added.
Tyson had his final professional win in 2003, a 49-second first-round knockout. Later that year he filed for bankruptcy, claiming to be $34 million in debt after earning an estimated $400 million over the course of his career. Tyson lost bouts in 2004 and 2005, and he retired in the aftermath of the latter fight.
Tyson is regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time.
