‘You are a liar’; GH¢600 can’t afford Day students items on the prospectus – Bridget Otoo challenges Ministry of Education

Media personality Bridget Otoo has reacted to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Education that a first-year day student in senior high school can obtain the full complement of items listed on the prospectus with as little as GH¢600.

Kwasi Kwarteng reacting to a report that day students in senior high school require GH¢ 3500 to buy items said the report is inaccurate.

He posted “Claims by our friends on the other side that DAY students require GH¢ 3500 to buy items on harmonized prospectus are unfounded & inaccurate.”

Kwasi Kwarteng clarified that ” With as little as GH¢600, a day student can obtain the full complement of items listed on the prospectus.”

But Bridget Otoo argued that the spokesperson of the Ministry of Education is a liar.

In a post shared on X, the outspoken journalist stated that she raised funds for two SHS girls and the items were over 3500 cedis.

She explained that the box alone is around GH¢250.

“You are a liar. I raised funds for two SHS girls on this app and the items were over 3500 cedis! The chop box alone is around 250. I’m sure it’s even gone up… How much is Cutlass? Uniforms?” she posted.

Meanwhile, all Senior High Schools began the 2024/2025 academic year on Wednesday, 30th October, 2024.

According to a statement signed by Mr. Prince Agyemang-Duah, Director Schools and Instruction Division of the Ghana Education Service the current First Year Students in Transitional Calendar Schools will ended their 2023/2024 academic year on Monday, 28th October, 2024 and be promoted to Form two (2) to continue with the new academic year immediately.

While some Ghanaians are commending the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for the introduction of the Free SHS policy, others have raised concerns of the negative effects of single track and transitional schools.

Some also understand that the current Senior High School is not free like the NPP government is saying.
