The Overlord of Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-kunuto Jewu Soale I has lifted the ban on Members of Parliament for the Damongo constituency and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor after extensive engagements with some government officials.
Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, banned Abu Jinapor from entering all palaces within the Gonja kingdom over what they described as disrespect and breach of tradition.
In a press conference, the Yagbonwura’s interpreters stated that the statement of the king is final and binding on all paramount chiefs within the Gonja kingdom.
“The king will never grant an audience to any government delegation, political party, or any person who pays him a visit once it includes Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor until he learns his tradition as a royal and learns how to respect the authority of the Yagbonwura. This statement is final and binding on all paramount chiefs within the Gonja kingdom,” He said.
However, Hon. Abu Jinapor visited the Yagbonwura at his Palace on Thursday, 1st August 2024 after extensive engagement with the President’s delegation.
During the visit, Abu Jinapor explained his side of the story to the Yagbonwura saying he remains committed to promote chieftaincy issues in the country.
According to him, he cannot disrespect the authority of the Yagbonwura and any other chief in the country.
Reports say Yagbonwura accepted Abu Jinapor’s explanations.
He acknowledged the Minister for his respect to the authority of the Yagbonwura,
According to the king the ban was aimed at protecting the dignity of the Chiefs and people of Gonja.
He also expressed his appreciation to the Minister for his efforts to ensure that the issue is resolved.
The king blessed him as grandson and assured him that he can now come to the palace anytime.
