The Western Regional Police Command is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at a mining company in Adelekezu near Dadwen in the Axim District.

The incident left a young boy dead and caused extensive damage to company property.

Police said the events began after a dispute between local youth and the company’s private security personnel.

Reports indicate that some youths attempted to seize a security officer’s pump-action gun, which he resisted.

During the struggle, the officer fired, hitting the boy, who was rushed to Axim Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The boy’s death reportedly enraged local youth, who went on a rampage at the site. Two 4×4 SUVs and two tipper trucks were set on fire, and a pickup truck and Toyota Land Cruiser were damaged.

Workers at the site were threatened, but police were able to rescue 11 individuals.

Authorities have arrested five suspects: Gyenyame Owusu, 38; Matthew Asamah, 24; Nana Yaw, 15; Yaw Opoku, 16; and Kojo Agyei, 21, on charges related to causing harm and unlawful damage.

The Western Regional Police Command is calling on community members to remain calm and cooperate with investigations to ensure justice is served.
