Volta Region: Regional Minister promises revitalize tourist sites

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has reassured Ghanaians, particularly the people of the Volta Region, of his commitment to revamping the region’s tourist sites.

He believes that revitalizing tourism in the region will significantly boost the local economy by providing a source of employment for the teeming unemployed youth. The Minister further revealed that government is dedicated to working diligently to ensure the region becomes a premier tourist destination in Ghana.

The Volta Region is home to numerous scenic attractions, including the Wli Waterfalls, Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, and the iconic Mount Afadjato, among others.

Speaking on the importance of tourism to the region’s growth, Minister Gunu said that the region is home to a wealth of natural beauty and cultural heritage that remains underutilized and by improving and marketing these attractions, he believes the region can attract more visitors, stimulate local businesses, and create job opportunities for residents.

“The tourism sector, is another priority, a major one, fortunately, in these two sectors, we have the ministers coming from the Volta region, so I’m going to collaborate more with them and then we will develop the tourist sites so that we can rake in a lot of revenue, to improve upon the local economy of the region, create job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youth in the region so that they won’t be travelling or migrating to the capital searching for non-existing jobs.” He said.

This initiative will focus on improving key tourist destinations, including historical landmarks, waterfalls, and national parks, ensuring that the region becomes a top destination for both domestic and international visitors.
