U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services confirmed Wednesday that a Ghanaian national with a prior credit card fraud conviction has been arrested after attempting to secure immigration benefits while hiding his criminal past.

The man visited a USCIS office in Columbus, Ohio, to seek immigration relief. During the application process, officers noticed inconsistencies in his records and began a deeper review.

That review revealed he had previously been convicted of credit card fraud, information he had failed to disclose.

Once the deception was uncovered, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were called to the scene. ICE agents arrived shortly afterward and took him into custody.

In a post on X, USCIS detailed the incident, saying, “A Ghanaian alien convicted of credit card fraud came to our Columbus, Ohio, office looking for immigration benefits.

He tried to hide his criminal past, but officers unveiled the truth. @ICEgov arrived to take him into custody.”
