US Vice President JD Vance’s residence in Cincinnati was reportedly attacked by an unidentified individual. The United States Secret Service and local police responded to the incident early Monday morning.
According to a CNN report, which cited officials, the Vance family was not present at the home at the time of the incident. Preliminary inquiries indicated that the suspect did not enter the residence, the report claimed. However, the suspect reportedly broke several windows.
Authorities have taken a suspect into custody. Police confirmed to local outlet WCPO that an individual was detained, though no details about charges have been released so far.
Secret service agents rushed to the East Walnut Hills residence in the early hours of Monday. Though a suspect has been taken into custody, authorities have not confirmed whether charges have been filed. Authorities are now examining whether the incident was specifically directed at Vice President Vance or members of his family, the CNN report added.
No further details were provided.
The incident occured despite heightened security measures in the area during the New Year holidays. Roads surrounding Vance’s residence were closed for several days until Sunday, with checkpoints and an increased law enforcement presence, city officials said.
Incidentally the incident came amid the backdrop of US attacking Venezuela. Vance reportedly was closely involved in the planning and execution of the operation.
While Vance publicly praised the operation on social media platform X, he did not attend the briefing of US president Donald Trump on the Venezulean operation due to security concerns.
According to officials, Vance met Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Friday to discuss the strikes. However, he was absent from Trump’s golf club later that night when senior officials monitored the mission.
The national security team “was concerned a late-night motorcade movement by the Vice President while the operation was getting underway may tip off the Venezuelans,” Fox News reported.
Explaining how Vance remained engaged during the operation, the spokesperson said, “The Vice President joined by secure video conference throughout the night to monitor the operation.”
“He returned to Cincinnati after the operation concluded.”
Citing “increased security concerns,” the spokesperson added that Trump and Vance are limiting the “frequency and duration” of time they spend together outside the White House.
After the operation became public, Vance commented on X, writing, “Maduro is the newest person to find out that President Trump means what he says.”
Responding to criticism of the action, he added in a separate post, “And PSA for everyone saying this was ‘illegal’: Maduro has multiple indictments in the United States for narco-terrorism.”
“You don’t get to avoid justice for drug trafficking in the United States because you live in a palace in Caracas,” Fox News noted. (ANI)
