The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya East Constituency, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor has spoken for the first time after she was released from the Police custody.

Madam Okunor was detained at the Cantonments Police Station following a clash between NDC and NPP supporters in the constituency.

The NDC PC was released after party executives and thousands of supporters besieged the police station demanding her release.

Addressing the public, Naa Koryoo Okunor stated that her arrest and detention is a sign that the NDC has won the 2024 general elections.

She said the action of the Ghana Police Service and the support from party members reflect the victory of the party in the December polls.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank everybody for your immense support since Sunday to date, I want to thank the hierarchy of the party, branch executives, regional executives, all our delegates, all our sympathizers and to my friends in the media. I want to thank you all for the immense support and the show of love. This is the beginning of our victory come 7th December.” Madam Okunor said.

According to her, the development of the country depends on the NDC so it is the time the party comes to power to rescue Ghanaians from the economic hardship caused by the bad governance of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

She assured that the party is not going to fail Ghanaians if they give them the mandate to serve the country again.

“And we are rest assured that we are not going to fail the great people of Ghana, Ghana depends on us and we will deliver the seat of the Awutu Senya East Constituency to the NDC. Thank you and God bless you all” Okunor assured.

Meanwhile, the flagbearer of the NDC and former president, John Dramani Mahama has warned the Ghana Police Service and the security agencies in the country that the NDC will not allow them to intimidate innocent Ghanaians and the members of the NDC.

“We cannot allow the police service to be used to stifle opposition and intimidate innocent Ghanaians and political opponents in the run-up to the 2024 elections. Clearly, the intention to detain her after she had already been granted bail is an attempt to intimidate the NDC Parliamentary candidate in her quest to unseat the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hawa Koomson, in the Awutu Senya East Constituency.” He warned.
