Social media users have commended Kenya’s President William Ruto for sacking all Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General Justin Muturi in response to youth-led anti-government protests.
According to them, the decision by the president indicates his commitment to ensure that the standard of living of the citizens is improved.
Addressing the nation during State House Press Briefing, President Ruto stated that “Review and reorganization of our budget and fiscal management has brought us to an inflection point. Upon reflection, listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after a holistic appraisal of the performance of my Cabinet and its achievements and challenges, I have today, in line with the powers given to me by Article 152(1) and 152(5)(b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General of the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya.” He said.
According to the president, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who also doubles as Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary and the office of the Deputy President were pardoned.
“Except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Affairs. And of course, the Office of the Deputy President is not affected in any ways.” said President Ruto announced.
The president will now engage other political players in reconstituting his Cabinet.
