The Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU-TUC) has suspended its industrial action.
TEWU on Monday, November 18th, 2024 embarked on an indifinately action over more than four years delay in concluding and implementing the Conditions of Service for their members in the Ghana Education Service (GES), Ghana Museums and Monument Board (GMMB) and the Ghana Library Authority (GLA) as well as the Public and Technical Universities.
But TEWU in a statement said after a meeting with the National Labour Commission and their Managements on Wednesday, 20th November, 2024, directed that the strike should be called off, while the unions the Union and the their various Managements concerned report back on Wednesday, 27th November, 2024 for the Commission to hear the substantive case.
“In view of the NLC’s directive, the TEWU of TUC(Ghana) leadership initiated immediate steps to engage the structures of the Union to abide by the Commission’s orders. After the necessary consultation among the structures of the Union, regarding such matters.” The statement said.
“We, therefore wish to announce to our various stakeholders that OUR INDUSTRIAL ACTION HAS BEEN SUSPENDED,” It is expected that our cherished members will resume full work latest by Monday, 25th November, 2024. We assure our cherished members that, the leadership of TEWU of TUC(Ghana), is bent on ensuring that there will be finality to the issue of the Conditions of service of the affected institutions for immediate implementation. Our members are being short-changed with the continuous delay in concluding and implementing the Conditions of Service and this cannot be allowed to continue,” Part of the statement read.
TEWU therefore, appealed to the National Labour Commission to help address their concerns to prevent further disturbances on the industrial front.
