Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry and Member of Parliament for Techiman North, in partnership with the Techiman North District Assembly, has launched the second phase of ‘Operation Light Up’, a project designed to boost security, promote local business, and improve night-time visibility throughout the constituency.

This latest phase, which commenced on Tuesday, November 19, 2025, at the district capital, Tuobodom, involves the installation of 300 additional streetlights across various communities in Techiman North, building on the 400 lights installed during the initiative’s first phase two years ago.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, in an interview with our reporter described Operation Light Up as an ongoing commitment to brighter and safer neighborhoods.

“Our Member of Parliament, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, launched “Operation Light Up” two years ago, during which 400 bulbs were installed across the Techiman North Constituency.

“During her recent tour in the constituency, she realized that some places still needed lights, as some of the old bulbs were no longer functioning, while other poles had no bulbs at all. Today, we are launching the second phase of Operation Light Up, where a total of 300 bulbs will be distributed across the constituency.

“In addition to the new 300 bulbs, plans have been put in place to maintain and repair existing ones, and those that are beyond repair will be replaced with new ones.” He said.

He further revealed that maintenance work is currently underway on streetlights along the major ECOWAS Trans Road, from Techiman to Kintampo and Techiman to Wa to safeguard drivers and pedestrians.

The DCE thanked the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry for spearheading the program and promised residents in areas still awaiting lights that their turn would come soon.

“Streetlights on the main ECOWAS Trans Road, Techiman to Kintampo and Techiman to Wa are also being maintained to ensure our roads remain bright and safe for motorists and other road users. Operation Light Up is here to stay, and all communities in the district will soon have their fair share.

”As the District Chief Executive, I want to thank our Member of Parliament for her commitment and determination to uplift the lives of her constituents.” He stated.

Several Assembly Members in the district have praised both Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare and Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson for rolling out the second phase, noting that prolonged darkness had severely impacted traders.

“We are very grateful to our Member of Parliament, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and our District Chief Executive, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, for what they have done for us. We lived in darkness for years, but when we informed our MP, she came to our aid through Operation Light Up.

“The traders in this area have suffered greatly due to the darkness, and I strongly believe that with this intervention from Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, they will be relieved and happy.” They told our reporter.

Some residents of Tuobodom also shared their excitement after streetlights were restored in their area following five years of darkness that had disrupted daily life and economic activity.

“I am very happy today because, for the past five years, we have been sleeping in darkness in this area, and it has affected almost all our activities. We are therefore grateful to Hon. Lawyer Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare and Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson for this intervention.” A resident told our reporter.

A local mobile money vendor explained how the absence of lighting had put her business at risk.

“We suffered a lot due to the lack of lighting. For me, as a mobile money merchant, some people even tried to patronize my services with fake currencies. Because the place was dark, it was difficult to detect such notes. Now that the lights are on, it will help me identify them easily and will support my business.”
