The Methodist Church Ghana, Dunwell Society in the Techiman South Municipality of the Bono East region, have celebrated their Silver Jubilee with the theme “Celebrating 25 years of God’s Goodness: Growing into Christian Maturity.”
This celebrations, aims to commemorate the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of the congregation who have contributed to the growth and success of the Dunwell society over the past 25 years.
The event, which was chaired by the Techiman Nifhene and Adunahene, Nana Nana Boakye Ameyaw Pentenprem II, was graced with the presence of the Wenchi Diocesan Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Alfred Appiah Andam, Supt. Minister of the Techiman Circuit and Bishop elect, Very Rev. Godson Amankwah-Amponsah, Synod Secretary, Very Rev. kobena Appiah including many other ministers of God.
The Dunwell Methodist Society was established on 7th February, 1999 with Nana Ampem Darkoaa, Obaapanin Susana Ameaa, Opanin Abraham Owusu (Late), Mr. Isaac Kyeremeh, Bro. Emmanuel Sarfo Kantanka, Mad. Faustina Owusu I, Sis. Agnes Amoatemaa, Sis. Faustina Owusu II, Mad. Faustina Asamoah, Bro. Kwabena Frimpong and 18 children being some of the first members of the society.
The Dunwell Society has since grown to a population of 410 with 309 adults and 182 children, out of the 309 adults, 101 are male while the remaining 208 are female and 81 of of the 182 children are male with the remaining 101 being female.
Very Rev. Godson Amankwah-Amponsah, while congratulating the church urged leaders of the church to be a shining star and hope for members of the community the church is located and ensure that the church grows in all aspects of life.
“Today is a memorable day for Dunwell Society in Techiman, the society is 25 years and they are celebrating their Silver Jubilee, I congratulate them.
“They should ensure the church all grow in all aspects of life, the Methodist Church Ghana, has a social services that we render in all communities that we are located, so the Dunwell Society must ensure that they become a shining star, a hope for members in this community.
“The church must help community members to further their education and also improve the quality of healthcare for all members in this community especially the young ones and the aged.” He said.
He further urged leaders of the church to setup a business venture that will serve as a source of income for the church so that the church can cater for its needs and that of the needy in the society.
“During the outbreak of Covid-19, the church and the country at large went to financial difficulties, so as a church, we have to prepare for whatever may come in the future, so I will advice the church to venture into a business that will improve their finances in times of difficulties.
“The church can build schools, venture into agribusiness or any other legitimate business that can support the church and the needy in the society and by so doing, we can win more souls into the Kingdom of God.” He explained
Bro. Emmanuel Sarfo Kantanka, who is the first steward of the Dunwell society, ceased the occasion to share the progress of the church and also urged the youth to participate in all activities in the church, he encouraged the youth to believe in their capabilities and stick to the scriptures and doctrines of the Methodist Church.
“I am part of the members that started this society, I was the first steward and the first Leaders Meeting Secretary for the Dunwell Society, the church has gone through a lot of challenges but in all, God has been good to us.
“The church has grown tremendously and so are the members of the church, we started from someone’s verandah, we moved to an uncompleted building, moved to another uncompleted building, we later build a structure and now we have build and worshiping in a storey building.
“This is testament enough that God is with us and we are grateful for how far He has brought our society.”
“My advice to the youth is to believe in their capabilities, as Paul wrote to the evangelist Timothy, to study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth, so am I telling our youth to study and believe that they can serve God through the church.
“The youth followership in the church says their are the vertebral column of the church, Jesus Christ started his ministry when he was 30 years, Reverend Joseph Rhodes Dunwell, came to Ghana as a youth, so the youth should bear it in their mind that they can also serve God and help win more souls.” He said
