The Ghana Library Authority, Techiman on last Friday, 29th November, 2024, organized a spelling bee competition for some learners within the Techiman South Metropolis.
The event, which was held at the premises of the Ghana Library Authority, saw over 500 learners participating in the competition with the aim of improving their spelling skills and reading comprehension while boosting their confidence and communication skills.
The Ghana Library Authority’s initiative is part of its efforts to promote literacy and a love for reading among learners.
Addressing the media after the program, the Bono East Regional Library Director, Mrs. Charlotte Nsia Tabiri, expressed her profound gratitude to parents and facilitators who encouraged their wards to participate in the program.
She explained that, the competition is aimed to introduce the learners to new learning environment and not necessary determine the best learner among the participants.
“I want to thank all parents who allowed their wards to participate in the program and as I said early, this is not a competition to determine a winner or a looser but we want to expose the learners to different environment and improve their learning.
“I will like to use this opportunity to apologize to all participants and facilitators who one way or the other felt something didn’t go well in the program, this is our first time and we hope to improve on it.
“All the participants got a certificate of participation and therefore they are all winners. ” She said
The competition was overseen by a panel of judges, who assessed the contestants’ spelling accuracy, pronunciation, and overall performance. The winners received prizes, with all contestants receiving a certificates of participation
Some of the participants who spoke with our reporter, encouraged their fellow learners to take advantage of such programs to enhance their spelling and reading skills by participating in next year’s spelling bee competition.

“I’ll tell them that they should come for the spelling bee because it is good, it helps you to learn words you don’t even know. Thank you all for those who supported me for this program, thank you and God bless you.” A participant told our reporter.
Another said “I thought that I would be evicted but by God grace was the third person in the competition. Please don’t be afraid afraid to join the program next year, when you come here, no one will shout at you, and you can be the first or second or the third person so please come.
