Naa Yereh Gien Kwame Appiah I, the Birifor chief of Techiman, has urged parents to prioritize their children’s education, recognizing it as the most valuable asset they can provide.
He made this statement during the Birifor community’s annual New Year celebration in Techiman.
Naa Yire Gyier I, also urged the youth to refrain from engaging in election violence-related issues, considering Ghana’s upcoming elections this year.
He emphasizes the significance of education as a valuable resource for children. “Education equips individuals with knowledge, skills, and opportunities for personal and societal development.” He revealed.
According to him, “by prioritizing their children’s education, parents contribute to their future success and well-being. viewing education as a property or asset reflects the long-term benefits it provides because now there is no land for proper farming hence investing in education, parents empower their children to realize their potential and make a positive impact in society.”
He continued, “if you allow your child to go to school and get a certificate, nobody can take that certificate from him or her, family members fight over properties but not certificates so I will urge parents to ensure that their wards get quality education”. He said.
Nana Yire Gyien uses the opportunity to advise his people in peopleTechiman to respect the customs and traditions of Techiman because they are settlers and they cannot be equal to the natives.
The Queen mother of Techiman Birifor Community Poonaa Joyce Dari Naanwinkufo I has also urged the girls to focus more on their education and if they are into artisan they should focus and desist from “collecting 5 cedi and indomie from guys.”
“I will urge my ladies to focus on their education and if they are into artisan, they should pay much attention to that because that is the only way to ensure they have a bright future and stop depending on guys because that won’t help them.” She said.
