The Bono Regional Director of Education, Mr. Gabriel Antwi  has advised teachers in the country to accept posting to rural areas and avoids perception that teaching at rural areas is a punishment but rather as impetus to makes life easier, saves and to gets chance to the higher pedestal.

According to him, no nation can be developed without education and teachers play a pivotal role in transforming any professional.

Mr Antwi made this known as a Special Guest Speaker of Ahafo Ano South West District Education Best Teacher & Worker Award for 2024 at Mankranso and tasked teachers to be determined and disciplined to accomplish mission

He used the occasion to congratulate all the awardees and teachers within the district and encouraged them to continue with their hard work.

“We have to be determine and discipline so that we will be able to reach the very top of our careers, I congratulate all the awardees and teachers who are making a difference in the lives of our students, their dedication and passion are truly commendable and I’m confidence that their influence will be able to shape the district for years to come.” He said

The Ahafo Ano South West District Education Director, Mr Justine Kwasi Gbortoh  explained that, the rationale behind the award ceremony is to motivate and encourage more teachers to accept posting into the district.

According to him, many teachers refuse posting in rural areas and they deem it fit to applaud and award teachers who despite the many challenges in rural communities, accepts to work in such areas.

“there are  a lot of rural areas in this region, so if some teachers accepts posting these areas yet they are overworking because most teachers refuses to work in those areas, then we have to do something to motivate the teachers who have accepted to work in those areas hence the award ceremony

“I have realized that motivation is one of the best ways to encourage workers in this case teachers to do their best, so I proposed the idea during a DOC meeting which we all agreed, I told our MCE about it and he agreed to support us because it is a good cause.” He said

Hon Joseph Frimpong Bonsu, popularly known as Adwuma Wura, the DCE for Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly, said the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government is committed in improving the standard of education in the country and therefore the government is interested in the welfare of teachers in the country.

“A government came into power and abolished the allowances for teacher trainees but since Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia cares about teachers, they have reintroduce the teacher trainee allowance. Teachers used to work for three years, gets promoted yet they will be paid for only three months but the government of Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia has abolished that practice and that is testament enough that they truly care about the welfare of teachers.” Hon.
