Renowned sports journalist, Bright Kankam Boadu, popularly known as BKB has taken a swipe at the Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif for creticized Ghana Amputee Football team for accepting donations from external entities before meeting with him.
Ghana Amputee Football team, the Black Challenge on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, received $10,000 as an appreciation token from former President John Mahama after they were crowned champions of the 2024 African Amputee Football Cup of Nations (AAFCON) tournament.
But the Minister said the team should have first visited the office of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the government who sponsored them to take records before anything else.
Reacting to this, the sports journalist said the Minister has no shame. He also questioned the Minister if he can talk to the Black Stars in that manner.
Bright Kankkam Boadu is paid by Ghanaians taxpayers and that he should not feel that he is better than Ghana Amputee Football team.
The journalist therefore called on president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo and the vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to call the Minister to apologise to the amputee team.
“This man has no shame!!! Can he talk to the Black Stars like this? The air condition office he sits in is paid for by the taxpayer and he feels he is more Ghanaian than these para athletes??? How long have these people tried to see u? The prez or veep should call him to immediately apologize to the amputee team….” He wrote on his X.
Former President and flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama earlier said it is distressful that Ghana’s national amputee football team, Black Challenge are not receiving the support and recognition they deserve.
“Our talented and hardworking athletes deserve more attention and support and should not have to fight for recognition and payment that is rightfully theirs. It is time for a change. I am determined to lead the change.
Once again, congratulations to ‘The Black Challenge’ and all our national athletes who continue to make Ghana proud.” He wrote.
