Ghanaian Hiplife artist, Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel has lamented abuse of social media in Ghana.
She said people are taking advantage of social media to do wrong things and disrespect elderly which, according to her, is not helping.
Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra Fm, the Ghanaian songstress suggested that there should be laws to combat cyberbullying in Ghana.
“I think a lot of people are abusing social media. I don’t know Nigeria and others but here in Ghana some people take advantage of social media to do wrong things. The abuse of social media in Ghana is too much. There should be laws to combat cyberbullying in Ghana and enforce it otherwise anybody can wake and insult people on social media on any issue. Whether the person is prominent, or whoever, they don’t care. Everybody is a blogger now because they have data, they have phones but I don’t think that is how it should happen.” Mzbel stated.
She revealed that she has sued one journalist and some people before because of false publication.
According to her, before anybody will put some out there, there should be a proper investigation to ascertain the truth of the matter.
“I have sued journalists before and have taken some people on but it was not in public, so those people have not published or said any false information about me. They also check their facts well. One is a journalist and the rest are not, I got the results but it was not made public because of the nature of the case. But the rest sometimes I come out and explain my side of the story on social media and let it go, so I don’t know.” She indicated.
“If you heard anything about someone, you must do the necessary investigation to find out the truth behind it but now social media has become like a weapon, you can use it to destroy someone in seconds.” Mxbel added.
