Sista Afia laments few TGMA nominations she has received

Ghanaian singer and songwriter, Francisca Gawugah known by the stage name Sista Afia has lamented few nominations she has received from Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) .

The “Jeje” hitmaker believes her hard work has been underestimated and is not recognized by the Awards scheme.

Sister Afia said she was expecting a nomination from TGMA then VGMA when she released her single “Jeje”, which features dancehall artist Shatta Wale and Afezi Perrym but she was snubbed until she ‘corner corner’ and ‘Weather’ came out.

“My song ‘jeje’ is a hit song so I was expecting a nomination but my work was not recognized.” Sister Afia expressed this dissatisfaction during an interview with Graphic Showbiz.

“I got nominations when I released ‘corner corner’ and ‘Weather’ but I have not received any nomination again which is not up to my satisfaction.” The female musician lamented.

Sister Afia in last year, expressed her concerns over the difficulties female musicians go through in the industry.

“It is the toughest job ever. Being a female is crazy, sometimes I wish I was a male. Because I feel like maybe my songs or the way I want to be will move faster than being a female. Because sometimes people regard us differently. It didn’t start now, it has been there since the foundation of the earth.” She said this on the Girls Aloud Podcast.

Despite the challenges she understands female musicians go through, the singer said her expectations are always higher.

“My expectations are still high, I feel like I can do much better, I can elevate even much higher.” Sista Afia added.
