The Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Seth Twum-Akwaboah, has disclosed that no business owner irrespective of their political affiliation will wish for the failure of any government.
Seth Twum-Akwaboah revealed that, there is an intrinsic connection between governance and economic growth between governance and economic growth as businesses can only thrive when governments implement effective policies, maintain economic stability, and create a conducive environment for private sector. He said the success of any government is directly tied to the prosperity of businesses.
“I think the last thing in a business would wish for a government is to wish for the government to fail. No business person would do that because you have invested your time, you have invested your money, your energy and everything. So you want to support every government in power to succeed because their success is your success and therefore, businesses are hoping that the government will succeed.” He said.
Seth Twum-Akwaboah explained that, although sales of business are relative low in the beginning of every new year, he is optimistic that that may change this year as Ghanaians in general optimistic in their doings and will hope to consolidate whatever gains they had last year especially when President John Mahama is espousing positiveness
“The problem has always been the competing factors, in January, for example, people are now going to be paying school fees so their demand for goods generally would come down and if you followed the trend, it is always like that.
“However, I think that we’ve come into a new regime, new government is taking over there’s a lot of optimism, the president himself is espousing positiveness, encouraging people to work hard, opening the economy for businesses to come in.
“These hopes brings a new dimension and I think that should help improve and consolidate the demand improvement that we saw. A lot depends on what we’ll be doing in the coming days, weeks, and months. I think normally when there’s a new government or there’s a new year, people are very hopeful. Anytime we have even the worst immediate economic environment, the expectations are always high.
“Ghanaians are very optimistic in everything they do, so I believe that we should go with that optimism and expect that this year we’ll be able to consolidate whatever gains we had last year and then continue with it, I believe it should work out.”
