Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, says he is not all that convinced about the form of goalkeeper André Onana Onana.
The 28-year old Cameroonian professional footballer, joined Manchester united in the 2023/2024 football season for an initial £43.8 million fee with a potential £3.4 million in add-ons from.
Onana however had a difficult season for Man United conceding a total of 83goals in 51 games across all competitions while keeping 13 clean sheets.
He conceded 58 goals in 38 English Premier League games, allowed 15 balls in the net in 6 Champions league matches, he also conceded 7 goals in 5 FA Cup matches and another 3 goals in 2 EFL games.
At the end of his first season at Manchester United, Andre Onana said it had taken him six months for him to feel good, given the impression that he will be on top of his game in the upcoming season.
However, Paul Scholes, who spent his entire professional playing career with Manchester United, scoring over 150 goals in more than 700 appearances between 1993 and 2013 has expressed concerns over Onana’s form.
“I still worry about the goalkeeper, he’s a big concern for me. Even watching the pre-season games, a couple of goals he conceded against Liverpool… I worry to death about him.” Scholes said.
Andre Onana, had conceded 5 goals in 2 pre-season games, 2 against Arsenal and 3 against Liverpool, this has left Paul Scholes in doubt over Onana’s form for the upcoming season.
Manchester United will face city rivals, Manchester City at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday 10th August 2024 in the FA Community Shield.
Born 2 April 1996, Onana joined Barcelona’s youth system in 2010. He signed for Ajax in 2015, where he made 214 appearances and won three Eredivisie titles.
Onana joined Inter Milan on a free transfer in July 2022, winning a Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana title in his sole season at the club, also reaching the Champions League final. Manchester United then signed Onana for an initial £43.8 million in 2023.
