English Championship side, Sunderland Association Football Club, is close to signing Ghanaian international, Salim Abdul Samed.

The 24-year old defensive midfielder, currently plays for French Ligue 1 side RC Lens and Sunderland will be hoping to land his signature before the close of the transfer window.

According to reports, negotiations between the two clubs are far advanced with all parties involved working to finalize the deal.

Abdul Samed, who joined RC Lens on 24 June 2022, on a 5-year deal has been impressive in the French Ligue 1, playing a total of 72 games across all competitions for the Ligue 1 side.

The Black Cats are in need of strengthening their defense, and Abdul Samed’s talent and experience make him an ideal candidate to fill that gap.

Sunderland has been working hard to bring in new players during the transfer window to improve their team

RC Lens, on the other hand, is open to loaning out Abdul Samed as they look to give him more playing time and experience.

He was part of a group of players sent to train with the reserves as they looked for moves away from the club.

FC Nantes, Stade Brestois, and AS Saint-Étienne were all linked with the Ghanaian.

The deal is expected to be completed in the coming days, pending the finalization of a few minor details.

Salim Abdul Samed signed a five-year contract with Lens in a transfer worth a reported €5 million in 2022.

The Ghanaian player whose first match with Lens saw 3–2 victory over Stade Brestois 29 extended his contract with Lens by an extra year.
