The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti Morkwa Constituency in the Central Region, David Vondee, has set the record straight on the sale of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by the Food and Agriculture Minister, Bryan Acheampong resulted in peaceful demonstration on the streets.
The NDC MP who defended Bryan Acheampong in an interview in Asempa FM’s EKOSIISEN show said the Agric Minister did no wrong.
According to David Vondee, the Minister is a businessman and he is entitled to enter into any legal business that can give him a profit so the NDC MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has been the lead crusader against Bryan Acheampong should channel their energy to SSNIT who is selling the hotels not the buyer.
Okudzeto Ablakwa and other leading NDC members have accused the Agric Minister of engaging in conflict of interest business through his Rock City Hotel to buy the SSNIT shares.
But David Vondee indicated that he has a different opinion about their accusations.
“You see, the Bryan issue, I am very different, look, Bryan is my friend so if I am talking about Bryan issue, I talk about it differently. If you are selling something legally and I have money to buy it, under normal circumstances, I will buy it. So why are we not talking about SSNIT who is seeking to sell our property? And I don’t know how the NDC will listen to me and hear what I am saying now.” The NDC MP stated.
According to him, if the state finds anything wrong with the deal, they should stop it and avoid accusing the businessman who wants to buy something legally.
“Why is SSNIT who is selling the hotels we are not talking about them and accusing the innocent person? Look, by all standards, Bryan is a businessman, I am a businessman, if you think you don’t want to sell the hotels, stop the deal. The fact is that it is not good for the young man’s business,” He added.
