The Member of Parliament for Pru East, Hon. Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, has appealed to drivers across the country to exercise caution on the roads, stressing that the preservation of human life must take precedence over speed, profit, and reckless driving.
Speaking to the media, Hon. Boam stated that the mandate entrusted to government through the ballot is derived from the people, noting that without citizens there would be no elections, governance, or leadership. He therefore urged drivers to value human life and adopt responsible driving habits to help protect passengers and other road users.
According to him, Ghana recorded approximately 13,000 road accidents between January and November this year, resulting in the loss of about 2,600 lives. He lamented that many of the victims were breadwinners whose deaths have plunged their families into hardship, distress, and poverty due to avoidable road crashes.
The Pru East MP cautioned drivers against the misconception that road accidents only affect passengers and not drivers. He cited cases where drivers themselves have lost their lives while attempting to make multiple trips in a bid to increase daily earnings. He explained that a good driver is one who transports passengers safely to their destinations and returns home alive, not one whose actions result in accidents, injuries, or loss of life.
Hon. Boam further called on transport unions, vehicle owners, and regulatory authorities to intensify education on road safety, particularly during the festive season when traffic volumes increase and the temptation to overspeed is high.
In a related development, the Pru East MP extended his heartfelt Christmas wishes to Ghanaians, expressing his hope for peace, unity, and safe travel during the festive season. He announced plans to visit his constituency to celebrate Christmas with residents and to thank them for their continuous support throughout his political journey.
He assured the people of Pru East of his unwavering commitment to give back to the community and support development initiatives, urging them to embrace the spirit of love, sacrifice, and compassion that defines the Christmas season.
