The Ghana Police Service has refuted allegations of training of some militiamen at Bawku in the Upper East Region.

It is alleged on social media platforms that the Ghana Police Service is training some militiamen at Bawku.

This follows similar allegations that the Ghana Police Service is training some militia at Kwahu in the Eastern Region in preparation for the 2024 general elections.

The Police in a statement said their investigation has found no evidence of such training in the area or its environs.

“The Ghana Police Service has noted with concern a publication alleging the training of some militiamen at Bawku in the Upper East Region. We wish to state that our investigation has found no evidence of such training in the area or its environs.” The statement said.

The Police assured that they are working hard to bring the perpetrators who intended to create unnecessary alarm and panic among the public to book.

“This is the second of such false publications within a week by some unpatriotic individuals intended to create unnecessary alarm and panic among the public. The Police are working to bring the perpetrators to book and the public should be assured that we will get them.” Part of the statement read.

“The Ghana Police Service, through its proactive media monitoring, has noted a publication alleging the training of some militiamen at Kwahu in the Eastern Region, for the 2024 general elections. We wish to state that our investigation has found no evidence of such training in the area.”

“The Police have commenced investigation to identify those behind the false publication to come and answer for their actions in line with the due process of the law. We wish to caution the public against the publication and dissemination of fake news.”
